Early June marks the height of firefly season in parts of Western North Carolina, most notably the synchronous fireflies although the past few years, we have also spotted blue ghosts. Nature enthusiasts flock to the area to try to catch glimpses of this beautiful phenomenon. Enjoy a relaxing weekended with a show put on by nature. Led by professional photographer, Nelson Stegall, participants will get the opportunity to learn the intricacies of catching fireflies on camera, and receive immediate feedback and coaching on style and technique.
Want to bring a non-photo-taking significant other or friend? They are more than welcome and can enjoy a restful getaway with beautiful views and a fantastic firefly show while you take part in the retreat. If you would like to add a person to your room reservation who is not taking part in the retreat, please add your registration to the cart and then select “additional guest” and add them to the cart as well. If you are reserving for two workshop participants, select “Double Occupancy” and add it to your cart for one person and then repeat for the second person.
Single Occupancy = One retreat participant/ Single occupancy room ($1150 each)
Double Occupancy = Both guests are retreat participants / Double occupancy room ($750 each)
Additional Guest = Not participating in retreat/ Double occupancy room ($300 additional)

Early summer is a beautiful time to visit Earthshine Lodge and is also firefly season! Everything is turning green and the weather is typically warm with maybe cooler evenings, perfect for a fire in the fire pit. Professional photographer, Nelson Stegall, will be your guide for the weekend and the lodge will provide a home base with beautiful views, crackling fires, and home-cooked meals.
The retreat fee includes photography instructions and sessions, a private room for two nights, delicious meals starting with a welcome Happy Hour on Friday. Please feel free to bring along your significant other or friend. If you are reserving for two workshop participants, select “Double Occupancy” and add it to your cart for one person and then repeat for the second person. For guests just along for the trip (and not a part of the photography retreat), the rate is $300 and includes meals and the reception on Friday evening.
Rain plans: This date was chosen based on the weather and firefly activity from past years, although we are in a temperate rainforest so we never know what mother nature has in store. This retreat will continue as planned regardless of the weather. If rain and clouds prevent firefly viewing, there are many other subjects that Nelson is prepared to capture (wildlife photography, waterfalls, etc.). There isn’t a shortage of nature subjects in this area!
